MYTH OR TRUTH ABOUT HAIR
1. Red hair color fades the fastest.
Verdict: True
If you are a hair stylist, you may notice that your
bright auburn lessens in intensity after one or two months. You’re not
imagining things. When the hair expose
to water, all dye molecules diffuse out of the hair a bit. But, since dye
molecules red are smaller than brown or black molecules, so they go away faster
(blondes don’t have to worry about shade fade – bleaching removes melanin
altogether, so there’s no hue to lose). This is one myth we wish was false!
2. Chlorine from pools can turn your hair green.
Verdict: True
If you’re a blonde swimmer you might’ve noticed
that, eventually, the water turns your tresses a lovely shade of chartreuse.
Here’s a little-known fact: it’s actually not a result of chlorine. The
culprit? The oxidized metals found in the solutions used to cleanse pools (like
copper, which turns from brown to green over time – i.e., the Statue of
Liberty). These metals can deposit a greenish hue onto strands, which shows up
on light hair. Good thing it’s easy to reverse! Simply remove the shade with a
detoxifying, clarifying shampoo.
3. You shouldn't wash your hair everyday.
Verdict: Myth
The new sentiment among hairinistas is that frequent
shampoos can damage and dehydrate your tresses.
Not true! How often you cleanse your coiffure is entirely up to
you - and it all depends on your type of hair, hairstyle, the way you care your
hair and lifestyle. While
shampoo-addicts aren't in danger of ruining their hair, it's still important to
keep it out of damage. So, use a
uitable: shampoo, conditioner, and natural oil that formulated for your hair
type, handle your hair gently (no rough brushing or combing, especially when wet!), and give the hair care one or two days per week.
